Mni Sota Makoce

“Minnesota” is derived from the Dakota phrase Mni Sota Makoce, which translates into “Land Where the Waters Reflect the Clouds.” 

As stewards of this land, our family acknowledges that The Tamarack is located on the traditional and ancestral lands of Indigenous people. We reside on land that was cared for and called home by the Ojibwe people, and before them, the Dakota people and other Native peoples from time immemorial.

We commit to honoring the Indigenous people who came before us, learning about their history and culture, and being good stewards to this precious land.
