Twelve Birch Trees
Spring Break To-Do List 2021
A few years back, our (then) resident beaver took down dozens of birch trees around the ponds. This year, we finally scheduled our trip just right to get at the trees, timed between the ice thaw and all the delicate new spring growth. This past week, Ray and Henry pulled out at least a dozen trees, and felled a few extra dead ones in the vicinity for good measure. Then we cut, hauled, axe-split and stacked a couple cords of beautiful birch for the season. (Ok, Ray cut and split, I hauled and stacked. As I always say, I’m the “sous” to his “chef.”)
In the end, we filled the wood shed for the months ahead. Man, we were tired! But all-family work days like this are among my favorite things to do at the cabin. All that time in the gorgeous out-of-doors, such a sense of accomplishment, real conversations and laughing together. The best!!
And now, we’re ready for all the wood-fired pizza and saunas we want. Anyone want to join us?!! We’re almost ready to begin entertaining again!! (Yahoo!!)
